Leading German brewery Krombacher has announced the introduction of its new Non-Alcoholic Weizen to the UK on-trade.
Tapping into the growing no- and low-abv beer market, the new wheat beer has an abv of less than 0.5%, which qualifies it as non-alcoholic in Germany.
The new beer is made using Hallertau hops, soft water sourced from wells found within 3km of the brewery and Krombacher’s own cultivated yeast.
‘[It’s] brewed the same way as our full-strength Weizen but using our special de-alcoholisation process to retain maximum flavour,’ said Stephan Kofler, Krombacher’s sales and marketing director for the UK and Italy.
In line with the style, it pours cloudy and golden in colour, showing characteristic scents of banana. Krombacher claims these aromas are ‘finely balanced against the malt and light hoppy notes’, and describes the beer as ‘finely sparkling’, ‘full in flavour’ and ‘beautifully balanced with a finish to savour’.
The brewery suggests pairing it with seafood, light poultry dishes or salads.
The new Non-Alcoholic Weizen joins a full-strength pils, weizen, hell, radler, dunkel and a low-abv pils in the Krombacher portfolio.
