The Tales of the Cocktail Foundation has gifted US$250,000 across 11 charities, initiatives, studies and organisations as part of its first-ever grants programme.
With the new leadership team taking over earlier this year (Feb 2018) the grants programme was its first directive, a move which followed a lot of negative press for TOTC under the old owners Ann and Paul Tuennerman.
The 11 recipients were narrowed down from 144 letters of intent, which became 52 full proposals, to the final 11, who are now to receive either partial or full-funding for their initiatives.
Recipients in the UK include Tim Etherington-Judge’s Healthy Hospo and The 100 Scots.
A Grants Advisory Committee, comprised of a dozen of the industry minds, reviewed the entrants. This included Colin Appiah from Bacardi; Tiffanie Barriere from The Drinking Coach & Drinking with the Girls; Eric Bennett from Carrigan’s Public House; Cris Dehlavi from CAP White Coat; Angie Featherson from Drink Company; Alba Huerta from Julep; Nandini Khaund from Bar Manager; Don Lee from Existing Conditions and Cocktail Kingdom; Lynnette Marrero from Speed Rack; Morgan Schick from Bon Vivants; Kellie Thorn from Empire State South; and Rocky Yeh from Maison Ferrand.
‘It has been immensely gratifying to help these recipients and I look forward to the positive impact their grants have on our industry,’ said Kellie Thorn, Tales of the Cocktail Foundation Grants Advisory committee member.
The full list of recipients is 86Waste; Causing a Stir; Children of Restaurant Employees; CocktailSafe.org; CrescentCare; Healthy Hospo; Burnout, Stress, and Substance Use in the Beverage Industry Study; Mezcaleros of Southern Jalisco; Pin Project; Prism; and The 100 Scots.
