Corte Vetusto: ‘mezcal is a genuine sipping alternative to single malts’

Location: Mexico

Corte Vetusto doesn’t shy away from a challenge. The mezcal brand has set itself the lofty task of challenging UK perceptions on agave by positioning mezcal as a ‘genuine’ sipping alternative to single malt whisky and a premium cocktail ingredient.

Available in three varietals: an Espadin, a Tobala and a ‘continually changing’ limited edition Ensamble (blend), Corte Vetusto is made by fourth generation master mezcalero, Juan Carlos Gonzalez Diaz.

New Generation McKinley have bagged themselves the exclusive distribution rights and the liquids will be available to taste at Imbibe Live on 3-4 July.

The three single-origin mezcals are made from mature agave, ‘unapologetically’ distilled to proof, and presented as joven (un-aged).

The range’s Espadin, made from cultivated agave and double-distilled in copper pot stills, is a great introduction to the range. The premium Tobala and Ensamble are made using wild agave, with first distillation in the copper still and the second distillation in an ancestral clay pot still.

They are all said to be ‘purposefully agave-forward’, showcasing the variety of flavour within the plants themselves and the impact of terroir.

Due to arrive in the UK mid-July, the mezcals will be available to taste on the New Generation McKinley stand (SS7) at Imbibe Live, Olympia.
