Tequila & Mezcal Fest has announced it will donate a percentage of ticket sales to the Mexican earthquake relief effort as the trade attempts to help those devastated by the natural disasters which hit the region earlier this month.
As Mexico starts the long and painful process of coming to terms with the destruction of property and loss of life following the earthquakes and begins to rebuild, the drinks trade has called on its peers to help the worst affected regions in Central Mexico and Oaxaca. #Fuerza Mexico has been trending on social media as more and more people get behind the cause.
‘Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the earthquake in Mexico. Tequila & Mezcal Fest will contribute with a percentage of all ticket sales through our website to both The Cruz Roja Mexicana and TOPOSMX to support the relief efforts on the ground,’ founder Eduardo Gomez said.
Many areas have been completely destroyed and rescue operations are still underway as rescuers search for survivors. A rescue group known as The Moles (Los Topos), formed after the 1985 earthquake when local authorities were overwhelmed by the scale of devastation, has once again provided privately funded support to the disaster.
‘So far the national and international support has been great but it will take weeks/months for Mexico and those affected to recover of this disaster. We need to keep helping. Thanks to everyone in our community who’s doing their part to help people to recover,’ Gomez added.
