Bibendum unveils La Guita En Rama sherry

Drinks: Sherry, Wines
Location: England, Spain

The unfiltered en rama sherry movement is growing apace. Tuesday night saw the UK launch of a new en rama from Sanlucar’s La Guita.

This latest release draws on the winery’s best soleras of manzanilla, bottled en rama, straight from the cask with no filtering or fining. The decision to create an en rama bottling this year came in October, the best time of year for the veil of flor yeast in the sherry barrels to show at their best, according to La Guita. This is the second en rama release from the winery, following on from 2015’s launch.

The intention is to create the best possible expression of the winery’s style, which ‘shows an unmistakable minerality, almost a delicate saline character which provides this wine with great finesse and complexity,’ it says. Its winemakers achieve this by ageing Manzanilla casks for a bit longer than those for the core La Guita, followed by careful selection for this bottling.

Sanlucar and its monuments and art are celebrated on La Guita’s en rama labels, and this one is no exception, bearing a depiction of the ancient 14th Century church of Nuestra Señora de la O.

Bibendum took over UK distribution of La Guita in September this year. The launch of this latest en rama was held at Sager and Wilde Restaurant in London.
